Sri Lanka Holiday Events

The Event Calendar in Sri Lanka is bursting at the seams right throught the year. From January to December there is so much going on in relation to religious festivals, cultural events and pagents, Colombo festivals, Galle and Kandy festivals as well as many other Food, Sport and Fashion related events.

Sri Lankans like a good party. Actually, they like any excuse to party. Jazz Sundays happen every 1st Sunday at the CH & FC. Entrance is Free, the music is just what you cool cats need and the food and beverage just hits the spot. Children too will enjoy themselves on the lawn of the popular clubs green.

Throughout the year, every Full Moon Day has special significance to the Sinhala Buddhist majority of Sri Lanka. They observe ‘sil’ at the temple, refrain from slaughter of animals and consumption of alcohol as well as try to observe the holy day with meditation and meritous acts. The full moon day is a local public, bank and mercantile holiday. There will also be a lot of congestion on the streets and main roads at dusk if a procession or ‘perahara’ is planned, with the pagent usually well represented by devotees and temple elephants dressed up for the occasion.
