Excursions in Sri Lanka

There are many little excursions and exciting things to do once you arrive in Sri Lanka. One of the best and most loved venues is the Elephant Orphanage in Pinnawela. The first such orphanage in the world, it has been a model that has been used in a few other locations in Asia. The sight of the older elephants leading the young ones to the river for a bath is a sight to behold. You can also partake in their meal times by paying a small fee to bottle feed the baby elephants. A word of warning, the bottles are quite heavy and you may need help holding it up for the duration of the feed.

A tip when travelling on excursions is to always carry a light weight jumper with you as the weather can turn a bit chilly between locations. You also need to keep hydrated and carry a hat/cap and sunscreen. You can also arrange day excursions to sites in Galle, Yala, Dambulla, Sigiriya, Polonnaruwa, Anuradhapura, Nuwara Eliya, Bandarawela, Trincomalee and Jaffna, to name a few popular locations.

There is so much to see, but sometimes a short trip in the morning after breakfast will suffice or a quick day tour of areas of interest will be the best way to experience as many facets of Sri Lanka as possible.
